March - May:
My husband and I bought our first home in November (2012) and decided in January that after 4 years of marriage we were finally ready to add a new member to our family. I guess God agreed with us on this timing because on February 19th we found out that we were expecting. We were both shocked and amazed -- this was happening. It was really happening!
March 12th (6 weeks along) we went for our first ultrasound. We were able to hear the heart beat and see our baby, about the size of a grain of rice, on the screen. It was so amazing and we were so happy. Everything looked great.
Two days later I ended up in the emergency room with a bleed. It's amazing how the happiest day of your life can be followed so instantly by the scariest. They discovered I had a massive subchorionic hemorrhage. The bleed was so bad that everything (except the placenta) had detached. I was told there was nothing that could be done and that this would probably not be a viable pregnancy. They said the only thing I could do is go home, pretend I just had major open-heart surgery and do nothing until the bleed stopped. So that is what I did because I truly believed everything was going to be fine.
By the next morning I had stopped bleeding. We thought this was a good sign and began to breathe a sigh of relief. We went in for another ultrasound a few days later, only to discover that the internal bleed was actually much, much worse. Although, in the midst of everything was our baby: perfect heartbeat and all.
I went back on bed rest and stayed there for 13 weeks. On week 13 we found out we were having a baby girl and by week 19 we were given the news that the bleed was gone, everything had reattached, and our little miracle baby was perfect. Finally--after months of worrying, praying, and bed rest we could begin thinking about names, nurseries, and baby supplies!
